Transforming Narratives is an ongoing research and exchange project that connects socially engaged artists and creative producers across Suriname, Curaçao and the Netherlands. The initiative creates a framework for mutual learning, dialogue, and collaboration grounded in reciprocity and the African philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are.”
In Transforming Narratives 1.0 (2023–2024), around twenty producers and artists from Amsterdam and Suriname met online to share methods of community-based artmaking and to reflect on visibility, belonging, and care within their local contexts.
Building on these experiences, Transforming Narratives 2.0 (2025–2026) expands the network to include Curaçao, working towards a sustainable, interdisciplinary exchange platform that strengthens cultural infrastructure between the Caribbean and the Netherlands. Partners include Forum Tolin Toli Masanga, Villa Zapakara, St/Art Foundation, and Boost Caribbean Foundation.
The project culminates in Relevance, Rhythms, Relations in Global Exchange — a public focus meeting exploring the transformative potential of artistic collaboration across borders.
